The best travel companies, organisations and operators in the Asia and Indian Ocean region were recognised last week at the inaugural World Travel Awards ceremony for this part of the world.
Held at the Swissotel Grand in Shanghai on June 19th, this event included some 800 nominated companies.
Awards were handed to nearly 120 organisations, which represented countries including Thailand, Singapore, China and Japan.
The leading destination award for Asia went to India, while the Maldives picked up the equivalent accolade for the Indian Ocean region.
A number of airlines were acknowledged at the ceremony, including Cathay Pacific (Asia's leading airline), Air China (China's leading airline) and Air Mauritius (Indian Ocean's leading airline).
Singapore Changi Airport won the award for the leading air gateway in Asia, while Shanghai was named the top destination in China.
