Manchester Airport has been decorated with an award from the Airports Council International (ACI) Europe.
The ACI Europe held its awards ceremony in Paris this week and recognised a number of airports, which were categorised based on the number of passengers they handle.
Manchester Airport was named the top operator in the 10-25 million passengers a year category.
The judges praised the English hub for its "simple, innovative approach to attracting airlines", as well as its community relations programme and arts sponsorship.
Passengers travelling through Manchester Airport have recently seen a new security screening area built in Terminal 1 as well as a range of state-of-the-art x-ray machines.
Andrew Cornish, the airport's managing director, said: "These are challenging times in the aviation industry and we know that there are some excellent airports in Europe, so to win this prestigious award is particularly great news."
Other sites recognised with awards included airports in
Lyon and
Madrid.
