Moviegoing Brits have been given a new motivation to visit
New York this year following the release of the Sex and the City movie, it has been claimed.
The film version of the popular TV show was released at the end of May and the city of
New York features alongside the four female characters as one of the movie's most important elements.
Derek Moore, chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators, said that the film, combined with the current strength of the pound against the dollar, would give Brits a big incentive to visit the Big Apple this year.
"The recent release of Sex and the City will remind people that New York is an ideal short break destination and will have a positive impact on the city's tourism industry," he said.
"The strength of the pound against the dollar offers tourists good value at the moment, adding an extra incentive to visit."
Film tourism is big business in the modern travel industry, with a forthcoming movie starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman expected to heighten the appeal of
Australia.
