Belfast International Airport has introduced a number of new services for passengers with reduced mobility ahead of the commencement of EU legislation on July 26th.
Government officials and industry leaders gathered at
London City Airport recently to prepare for the new regulations, which will make it easier for disabled people to travel through
Europe.
Belfast International Airport said this week that it had rolled out a number of new facilities after working closely with airlines to develop services that met their operational needs while improving the situation for the passenger.
Airport operations manager Rod Haskins said: "After a six-month tender process we awarded Interserve the contract to manage services at Belfast and they successfully took over at the beginning of June, two months ahead of the EU legislation deadline.
"Interserve has a team of specially trained staff to deal with passengers who require this service. Those passengers needing assistance will continue to request assistance through their airline or travel agent (recommended at time of booking). Those details will then be passed through to Interserve to facilitate on the day of travel through Belfast International."
Travellers can catch flights from the
Belfast gateway to a number of destinations, including
Lisbon,
Paris,
Orlando and
Dubai.
