Record number of Brits head to America
The USA is set to experience a record number of British visitors this year, according to the Visit USA Association.
Reported by the Telegraph, figures up until May show an 11 per cent rise in UK visitors to America when compared with the same period last year.
The newspaper attributed the rise to the conversion rate, explaining that Brits are taking advantage of the good value of the pound against the dollar.
Peter Moss, chairman of the association, said that the results so far confirm that 2008 is "a very good year" for the States' tourism industry.
He added that the figures "really do support the fact that 2008 may well go on to become the biggest year ever for UK travel to the USA - possibly as high as five million visitors".
British Airways revealed similar positive results for the US earlier this week, with four of its cities making up the airline's top five long-haul destinations.
Holidaymakers heading to America will also find value for money if they hire a car, as the Post Office recently revealed that it is the cheapest for petrol and diesel.
