British people may be cutting back their spending when it comes to some luxuries but one expert has said that holidays appear to be 'non-negotiable'.
Despite the credit crunch, people are continuing to book trips abroad, according to Tom Hall, travel editor of Lonely Planet.
He also said that if travellers wanted to save money this summer they should consider opting for a country outside of the euro-zone such as
Turkey.
"I think people see holidays as a non-negotiable thing," Mr Hall explained.
"The question is whether they are going to cut back on those additional trips, in addition to your main holiday, are you going to cut back on one of your short breaks?...That's a question that we don't really know the answer to at the moment."
He added that despite many airlines being expected to put up the price of tickets due to the current financial conditions, the "savvy traveller can still take advantage of it and can still travel cheaply".
