On September 11th, visitors to
Barcelona will be able to join in the celebrations for one of the biggest festivals in the region's cultural diary: The National Day of Catalonia.
Throughout Barcelona, there will be free music concerts, demonstrations of regional pride and colourful parades.
Local residents will paint the town red (and yellow), as they hang striped Catalonian flags from their homes.
In the Parque de la Ciudadela, floral offerings will be made to the historic monuments of Rafael Casanova and Josep Moragues by political parties and other organisations.
The day commemorates a victory of the Bourbon troops during the 1714 war of Spanish succession.
Barcelona is a great destination for a city break. Some other popular events include Festival del Grec (held from June until August), Festes de la Mercč (held around September 24th) and the Festa Major de Grącia (held on August 15th).
