American swimming star Michael Phelps has shown that he is not only interested in hard work by heading to
the Algarve in
Portugal for a much needed break following his record-breaking exploits in the Olympics.
Phelps became the most successful Olympian in history this month when he won eight gold medals in
Beijing.
According to the Portuguese National Tourist Office, the swimming champ chose to unwind in the Algarve owing to its relaxing atmosphere and friendly people.
He is not the only celebrity to make the most of the holiday hotspot this year, as French actress Catherine Deneuve and Hollywood star Tim Robbins have also visited to attend events arranged for the Allgarve 08 festival.
This programme of concerts and sporting occasions has included shows by Lou Reed, Simply Red and Diana Krall.
A number of major events are set to take place before the festival comes to an end, including the Portugal Sailing Trophy, the Superbike Grand Prix in Portimao and the Golf Masters.
