Almost one in ten Brits who have indulged in a holiday fling ended up marrying the person they met abroad, according to a survey.
Research by moneysupermarket.com found that those over the age of 60 are the most likely to find lasting love abroad, with more than one in five ending up married to their holiday romance.
More than a third of Brits have given in to the charms of a
romantic destination and indulged in a holiday fling, according to the poll, although less than half said the relationship continued after their break had come to an end.
Europe appears to be the most fruitful destination for Brits looking for love abroad, with nearly a third of all overseas romances occurring on the continent.
Peter Gerrard of moneysupermarket.com said: "For all those looking for fun and love in the sun, the chances of a holiday romance look pretty good.
"It seems the over-60s are hopeless romantics and it's great to know that you are never too old to find love."
Unsurprisingly,
Paris is considered the best European destination for holiday romance, followed by
Majorca,
Barcelona,
Tenerife and
Rome.
