New York to host horror movie festival
People from the United States have a reputation for getting into Halloween more than most and that image will be as strong as ever in New York City this year.
The NYC Horror Film Festival will bring all manner of macabre and spooky movies to the Big Apple at the end of October.
Based at Tribeca Cinemas in lower Manhattan but with screenings taking place throughout New York, the festival incorporates everything from screenings and parties to celebrity guest appearances and free giveaways.
Established in 2001, this week-long event is now thought to be America's biggest and most widely recognised genre film festival.
There is a competitive element to the event, with the 50 to 60 films that are screened every year competing for awards in categories including best feature, best short, best actor and best screenplay.
The festival also presents a lifetime achievement award, which in past years has been given to the likes of Roger Corman, Tobe Hooper, George Romero and Tom Savini.
More information can be found on the event's official website.
