Exeter Airport has announced that it handled 114,600 passengers in August, making it the busiest month in the airport's 70-year history.
The gateway saw a year-on-year increase of one per cent in passenger numbers in August, while traffic on charter holiday routes rose by three per cent.
Jamie Christon, deputy managing director of Exeter Airport, said he was "absolutely delighted" with the figures and revealed that hotspots in the
Canary Islands and the
Balearics saw the most visitors.
"The most popular destinations from Exeter were Tenerife, Majorca, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria but there was a notable take up for the flights to Turkey and the twentieth year for our flights to Toronto have proved a great success," he said.
Mr Christon also pointed out that Exeter Airport achieved its strong figures despite difficulties in the economy and decreasing traffic at other gateways.
Airlines including regional carrier
Flybe offer flights from Exeter Airport to destinations such as
Amsterdam,
Dublin and
Brussels.
