Fans of
golfing holidays will soon be presented with a unique opportunity in
Australia when the country becomes home to the world's longest golf course.
Work on Nullarbor Links is set to begin soon following an agreement between the Eyre Highway Operators Association and AusIndustry, a federal government initiative, according to the South Australia Tourism Commission.
The 18-hole, par 72 golf course will stretch over a total of 1,365km, with holes located in a number of participating towns and roadhouses between Kalgoorlie in Western Australia and Ceduna in South Australia.
Visitors should also be able to choose from plenty of accommodation options near the course, with plans in place to build 11 hotels along the route.
While Nullarbor Links is expected to lead to more people taking golfing holidays in Australia, the
culinary tourism industry could be set for a boost this month following the World Food Exchange event.
Neil Saunders, the South Australia Tourism Commission's UK-based marketing manager, said: "We are home to some of the world's best food and wine regions, allowing visitors to eat the freshest, most delicious food, washed down with superior wine all of which is grown locally and often within a 50km radius."
