America's travel industry leaders recognised

The leading members of the travel industries in North America and Central America were recognised recently in the regional section of the 2008 World Travel Awards.

At an event held in Orlando, Florida the winners included American Airlines, which was named North America's leading airline.

New York-JFK was announced as the United States' leading airport, while the city of New York itself took the top destination award.

Other winners in the North America section of the awards included Miami (leading cruise port) and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in Canada (leading ski resort).

In the Central America category, the city of Cancun in Mexico was among the biggest winners, taking both the leading beach and leading destination awards.

Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica won the award for Central America's leading airport, while Marriott was named the region's leading hotel brand.
