More people could be on the lookout for cross-Channel flights this week after Eurostar confirmed that it would be operating a "very restricted timetable" between September 14th and 21st.
Following a fire on 12 September in the north tunnel that runs beneath the English Channel, Eurostar will be providing "very few services" and there will be intervals of several hours between some trains.
Travellers who are still planning to use the Eurostar were warned to expect a longer wait before boarding as well as "significantly longer" journey times.
The operator also announced that check-in will close at 18:45 BST in London, at 20:00 local time in
Paris and at 20:30 in
Brussels.
Disruptions to the Eurostar service are likely to lead to many people seeking refunds for their tickets and searching for alternative methods of travel.
Bmi was among the airlines that organised additional services to help travellers at the end of last week, with extra capacity on its
flights from London Heathrow to Brussels and also on its bmi regional
flights from Leeds-Bradford to Brussels.
