East Midlands Airport has celebrated receiving two travel industry awards in less than a week.
The first success for the gateway came at the Travel Trade Gazette Awards, where it was named 'airport of the year' ahead of
Luton Airport and
Birmingham Airport.
At a ceremony in London, the East Midlands hub was named the 'star regional airport' at the Travel Bulletin Star Awards, an accolade for which
Liverpool Airport,
Bristol Airport and Birmingham Airport were also nominated.
Penny Coates, the airport's managing director, said: "We are delighted to have won two prestigious and highly acclaimed awards in less than a week and see this as a reflection of our hard work and dedication.
"These awards show the confidence, trust and respect our colleagues in the travel industry have for the airport and we are delighted that this has been recognised in a very competitive marketplace."
A number of major airlines operate from East Midlands Airport, including
bmi and
Eastern Airways, to destinations such as
Rome,
Paris and
Cologne.
