The south-east Asian 'triangle' of
Vietnam,
Laos and
Cambodia have reportedly launched a plan to focus on tourism to develop their respective economies.
A meeting took place in Champassak, Laos on September 22nd where the agreement was reached, the Vietnam News Agency reports.
One of the officials who attended the meeting, Vietnamese minister of planning and investment Vo Hong Phuc, said that the countries' decision to promote themselves to tourists as a shared triangle was the correct one.
The concept of a development triangle consisting of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos was first established in 2004 by the nations' prime ministers.
One of the effects of the new tourism agreement could be to ease the cross-border flow of people, something that could be welcomed by people on
backpacking trips.
A number of major airlines offer flights from the UK to destinations in south-east Asia, including
Cathay Pacific,
Thai Airways and
Korean Air.
