'Shoes-on' security system launched in Tel Aviv
A new security system that scans passengers' feet and ankles without the individual having to remove their shoes has been launched at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The MagShoe scanner, which was developed by IDO Security, has been installed at security checkpoints throughout the main terminal at Israel's busiest airport.
With a patented 'step-in' design, the system carries out a thorough scan of the ankles and feet without passengers having to remove their shoes, thereby reducing travel delays and discomfort.
The portable devices are already being used at a number of other airports, stadiums, government agencies and cruise ports around the world.
Nissim Ben-Ezra, securities technology manager for the Israel Airports Authority, said: "Traveller safety is always our first priority and our process for vetting new security technologies is rigorous.
"IDO Security's MagShoe is at the cutting-edge of the market and allows us to continue to provide the highest levels of security to our international passengers."
With around ten million passengers every year, Ben Gurion Airport is Israel's main international gateway and is renowned for its strong security.
