KLM and
Malaysia Airlines have celebrated the tenth anniversary of their successful partnership.
The airline's began their collaboration by codesharing on the route between
Amsterdam Schiphol and
Kuala Lumpur International Airport, an operation that has grown into an extensive 'code pact'.
Passengers see a number of advantages from the association between KLM and Malaysia Airlines, the carriers claim, including access to two worldwide networks and the benefits of both companies' frequent flyer programmes.
Travellers can also make use of 'seamless transfers' at the airlines' hubs in
Amsterdam and
Kuala Lumpur.
Pieter Elbers, senior vice-president of network operations for KLM, said: "Since 1998, more than one million passengers have benefited from the mutual codeshares we offer on our extensive combined network between Europe and Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand."
Malaysia Airlines commercial director Dato' Rashid Khan added: "The partnership with KLM has strengthened our position in Europe and this cooperation is a proven success formula which forms a sound basis for a continued partnership with KLM in the future."
The two carriers currently offer daily Boeing 747 services between Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam, providing a weekly capacity of more than 5,000 seats in each direction.
