Europe 'offers cheaper skiing than US'
People planning skiing holidays have been advised that Europe is likely to provider cheaper options this winter than the USA.
According to research by the Post Office, continuing price rises in America have made the country's resorts more expensive than those in Europe, despite the continuing strength of the euro against the pound.
Eastern Europe is reportedly the cheapest region of all for skiers, although the 'big three' of France, Austria and Switzerland are also expected to benefit from rising prices in the US.
Romania is top of the Post Office's list of cheap skiing destinations, followed by Slovakia and Bulgaria, with Italy, Finland and Germany also appearing in the top ten.
Helen Warburton, head of travel at the Post Office, said: "Although the pound will not stretch as far for UK skiers as in previous years, there is still good value to be had.
"Resort prices in France, Austria, Switzerland and particularly Italy look good value when compared with the US, while the emerging ski resorts outside the eurozone – especially Romania and Slovakia – will be excellent choices for beginners and for families on a tight budget."
People considering long-haul ski holidays may be interested in visiting Argentina, which, according to the Post Office, is half the cost of America for ski passes and equipment.
