Dutch airline
KLM is set to expand the range of available
flights from Liverpool to Amsterdam when it launches its summer schedule in 2009.
The airline said that the new service will connect
Liverpool Airport to more than 100 destinations worldwide via
Amsterdam.
Set to get underway on March 29th, the scheduled service will use a Fokker 70 aircraft that will provide three daily services.
Liverpool will be KLM's 15th destination in the
UK, with flights also available with the airline from
Heathrow Airport,
Birmingham Airport,
Edinburgh Airport and other gateways.
Pieter Elbers, the airline's senior vice president of network operations, said: "Being the only major network carrier to include Liverpool in its network, KLM further strengthens its position in the UK, one of the most important markets in the extensive network of KLM."
Neil Pakey of the Peel Airports Group, which owns Liverpool Airport, said the new service will be a "lasting legacy" for the city's year as Europe's capital of culture.
He added: "KLM's flights will make doing business with international markets in Liverpool much more straightforward and attractive, and for people looking to experience new destinations and cultures across Asia, Africa or the Americas, then KLM's offer at John Lennon Airport will deliver this for Liverpool for the first time."
