Dubai has been named the leading destination in the
Middle East at the latest World Travel Awards regional ceremony.
Held at Atlantis, the Palm this year, the World Travel Awards for the Middle East were handed out on the basis of votes made by nearly 170,000 industry professionals from around the world.
As well as being named the region's leading destination,
Dubai picked up the top cruise port award and the leading hotel accolade for the Burj Al Arab.
Graham Cooke, founder and president of the World Travel Awards, said: "Not only Dubai but the whole of the Middle East region is a constant signal to everyone in the industry of how bold vision and innovation, investment and positive responses can make a difference – despite global economic fears."
A number of airlines were also recognised at the ceremony, with
Etihad Airways named the region's leading carrier and the top provider of first class services.
Emirates received awards for its
inflight entertainment, cabin staff and economy services, while
Qatar Airways was named the leading
business class airline and the top provider of airport lounges.
