The British Travel Awards 2008 ceremony was held in London last night (November 6th), with
Virgin Atlantic among the operators to fare well at the ceremony with three awards.
Tens of thousands of consumers, travel agents and industry professionals voted for the awards, which recognised airlines, destinations, accommodation providers, cruise lines and many other areas.
Virgin Atlantic was named the best
business class carrier, the best economy class airline and the leading scheduled airline for
long-haul services.
The
Heathrow Airport-based operator had to settle for second place in the 'airline of the year' category, however, with the top award going to
Etihad Airways, while
Manchester Airport was named the airport of the year.
In the 'destinations and attractions' section of the awards,
Barbados was named the best beach holiday destination and
New York was considered to be the best location for a
city break.
Val d'Isere in
France picked up the 'best ski resort' award, while
New Zealand was the British Travel Awards' 'dream destination' for 2008.
