Take on Iceland's Thorrablot challenge
Travellers who pride themselves on their strong stomachs may be interested in paying a visit to Reykjavik in Iceland next year for the mid-winter feast of Thorrablot.
This event will take place between January 25th and February 23rd in the Icelandic capital and will offer tourists the opportunity to sample traditional Viking foods.
One of the interesting options that visitors will be able to try is hakarl a rotten shark dish that famously made celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay vomit on his television show The F Word.
Travellers can also challenge themselves to try boiled sheep's head or congealed sheep's blood wrapped in a ram's stomach, before washing their meal down with a shot of Brennivin, or 'black death' a potent type of schnapps.
A number of eateries in Reykjavik, including Mulakaffi and Restaurant Reykjavik, will participate in the festival by adding unusual dishes to their menus.
There will also be plenty of entertainment on offer around the city in the form of music, games and storytelling events.
Icelandair offers flights to Reykjavik from Heathrow Airport and Manchester Airport.
