BAA Scotland has released figures showing that
Spain was the most popular overseas travel destination with Scots in 2008.
The Spanish destinations of
Alicante,
Malaga,
Tenerife and
Palma were among the top ten flight locations from
Aberdeen Airport,
Glasgow Airport and
Edinburgh Airport last year.
In total, more than 1.2 million passengers flew to Spain from BAA's three airports in Scotland.
The
Netherlands was the second most popular country for Scottish air travellers, followed by
Ireland,
France and
Germany.
BAA Scotland spokesman Donald Morrison said: "It seems that Spain is as popular now with Scots as it has ever been and with the top three most popular countries unchanged from last year, you could argue that we are becoming creatures of habit.
"However, with France and Germany knocking the US traditionally one of our most popular tourist markets into sixth place and Norway entering the top ten for the first time, perhaps tastes are beginning to change."
Amsterdam was the most popular single flight destination from Scottish airports in 2008, while
Newark Airport in
New York was the leading
long-haul location.
