Etihad, Aer Arann reach codeshare deal
Etihad Airways has announced that it is to expand its presence in Ireland as a result of a codeshare agreement with Aer Arann.
The deal will see the Abu Dhabi-based carrier place its 'EY' code on Aer Arann's flights from Dublin to the Irish destinations of Cork and Galway and also to the Isle of Man.
In turn, Aer Arann passengers will be offered access, via Dublin, to Etihad's hub at Abu Dhabi and its network of flights to nearly 50 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Australia, North America and other regions.
Etihad chief executive James Hogan said the airline had developed a "strong affinity" with Ireland, with Dublin swiftly becoming one of its most popular destinations.
He added: "There is great demand amongst our customers to travel beyond the Irish capital, which this new codeshare agreement now allows."
Paul Schutz, chief executive of Aer Arann, said: "The importance of regional access within Ireland to major international routes cannot be overstated and this codeshare agreement is a very significant addition to the infrastructure supporting business and the economy in the Irish regions."
Etihad has codeshare agreements with ten airlines other than Aer Arann, including bmi, Brussels Airlines and Malaysia Airlines.
