Lufthansa opens extended lounge in New York
Lufthansa has opened an expanded and modernised lounge for its premium passengers at John F Kennedy Airport in New York.
Covering an area of 1,500 square metres, the facility provides twice as much space for customers as the original lounge before refurbishment.
According to Lufthansa, the highlight of the development is the new area designated for first class travellers and members of the airline's HON Circle loyalty scheme.
The first of its kind outside the Lufthansa and Swiss hubs in Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich, this zone boasts a pre-flight dinner area, shower rooms and other facilities.
Lufthansa's business class passengers have access to a part of the three-storey lounge that includes a bistro and bar, a lounge area and a work zone.
Oliver Wagner, the airline's vice-president of global airport products, said: "The lounge at John F Kennedy Airport is a walk-in advertisement for Lufthansa on the American continent and is an important component of our 150 million investment programme to upgrade our lounges worldwide."
Mr Wagner went on to reveal that Lufthansa will open seven new lounges in the first three months of 2009, including facilities in Mumbai and Paris.
