New York 'offering ideal skiing conditions'
The US state of New York, while not the most high-profile ski holiday destination, could be among the most popular over the coming weeks as travellers take advantage of excellent winter sports conditions.
According to the New York State division of tourism, a storm passed over the region last week that brought a large amount of new snow to a number of upstate ski areas.
The locations to benefit from the snowstorm include Whiteface Mountain and Kissing Bridge.
Kirt Zimmer, sales and marketing director at Windham Mountain resort, said: "We have all of our trails open and I honestly haven't seen better conditions in my five years here.
"I was out riding yesterday morning and the snow was so soft that I never heard my board scrape anything."
In order to raise the profile of New York as a skiing destination, there will be a number of events, promotions and special offers being launched this season.
On February 7th, East River Park in Manhattan will host Winter Jam NYC, a winter sports festival including a professional snowboarding competition, a snowman-making contest and other events.
