Europe 'still popular for Valentine's Day'
The strong value of the euro against the pound will not dent the popularity of destinations in Europe for romantic travellers this Valentine's Day, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
Less mainstream options such as Bologna, Antwerp and Budapest are proving popular over the likes of Venice, Paris and Prague as people look for different experiences in Europe, according to the travel association.
Abta spokesperson Casia Zajac said that travellers are searching for destinations that are "new and exciting" but also offer value for money.
She added: "It's not surprising that cities such as Budapest and Antwerp are proving popular as we keep a tighter grip on the purse strings. They have intriguing histories and a frisson for the perfect romantic adventure."
Offering a guide to the "perfect Valentine's Day break", the travel association said that it is important for travellers to budget, get insurance, plan their trip in advance and book with an Abta member.
Following the recent collapse of Lithuanian Airlines, Abta reminded passengers of the fact that its members offer protection in the event that an airline ceases trading.
