Virgin Atlantic boss marks launch of new airline

Virgin Atlantic president Sir Richard Branson has embarked on an eight-day journey around the world to mark the launch of the newest Virgin airline V Australia.

He started his trip by flying from London to Hong Kong and will travel to Sydney and Los Angeles before eventually returning to London.

The famous entrepreneur will be speaking to local business representatives along the way to discover the global effects of the economic downturn.

V Australia, which will launch on February 27th, will initially fly from Sydney to Los Angeles, with plans to expand its operations to include flights from Brisbane and Melbourne in the future.

Sir Richard said: "The launch of V Australia joins up Sydney and LA, destinations currently served by Virgin Atlantic from London and it means consumers can travel on Virgin globally for the first time. It's a unique moment in Virgin's history."

With a central base at Heathrow Airport, Virgin Atlantic offers flights to long-haul destinations including Cape Town, Tokyo and San Francisco.
