Barbados tourism promotions 'proving popular'
The Barbados Tourism Authority has announced that the new Gourmet Card and VIP Card promotions are proving popular with holidaymakers.
Holders of the VIP Card will be able to take advantage of 'buy one get one free' offers on car rental and various activities around the Caribbean island between April and December this year.
The Gourmet Card, which will be valid for the same period, guarantees discounts of up to 25 per cent on meals at selected restaurants across Barbados.
Petra Roach, vice president of marketing in Europe for the Barbados Tourism Authority, said: "We are thrilled at the worldwide interest we have received in the Gourmet Card, which has exceeded all our expectations.
"It has clearly been one of our most successful initiatives yet with applicants from as far away as Canada, Australia, Africa and Brazil registering for the card in addition to the applications coming in from Europe."
Similar interest has been shown in the VIP Card, according to Ms Roach.
The island's tourism industry enjoyed a boost last year when the website Totally Barbados won the World Travel Award for the Caribbean's leading travel information site.
