First anniversary for Emirates' inflight mobile service
Emirates recently announced the first anniversary of its inflight mobile service, which was introduced on a flight from Dubai to Casablanca on March 20th 2008.
More than 160,000 passengers from over 130 countries have taken advantage of the service over the past year, including more than 50,000 in the last three months alone as the facility has become more widely available.
The AeroMobile system has now been installed on 32 Emirates planes, meaning it is available on one in four of the airline's flights.
Patrick Brannelly, vice president of passenger communications for Emirates, said: "Using this innovative service has now become second nature to our passengers who love the convenience of being able to stay in touch when they choose to.
"It has proved as popular with passengers on all flights to all destinations, not just businessmen and women but also leisure travellers. It's ideal for just wanting to call home or make contact with family on birthdays or anniversaries."
AeroMobile chief executive Bjorn-Taale Sandberg said the company was looking forward to a further increase in usage of the service over the coming year.
Emirates recently announced the addition of the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire to its inflight entertainment offering, joining other movies including Australia, Quantum of Solace and Changeling.
