EasyJet announces new flights to Vienna
EasyJet has announced that it will boost its European network this year by launching new flights from London Gatwick to Vienna.
The new service from Gatwick Airport to Austria's capital city is due to get underway on April 2nd and follows the successful introduction of flights to the city from Luton Airport.
One of the main reasons behind the launch of the new flights is the increasing popularity of Vienna - which is famous for its associations with classical music and ballroom dancing - as a result of the success of television shows such as Strictly Come Dancing.
The city also boasts a nightlife scene and inland beaches that are popular with younger travellers.
Paul Simmons, UK general manager of easyJet, said: "Vienna has always been known for its historical past, but the city is now enjoying a real renaissance.
"We are seeing lots more tourists wanting to visit Vienna. Although people still want to see its palaces, art galleries and museums, they now want to experience the romance of dances like the waltz where they originated, in some of the grandest ballrooms in the world."
The airline announced recently that it is bringing its expansion from Manchester Airport forward to May 21st, when it will be launching new flights to Athens, Corfu, Bastia and Dalaman.
