Southampton Airport expecting 55,000 over Easter
Southampton Airport has revealed that it is expecting to handle more than 55,000 passengers over the Easter weekend.
Travellers will be heading to more than 45 destinations across Europe, the UK and the Channel Islands including Malaga, Brussels and Dublin.
While foreign hotspots are expected to prove popular with people flying from Southampton Airport, the strongest demand has been shown for domestic destinations.
Jan Halliday, director of marketing and communications at the airport, said: "This year is set to be a very busy Easter period, with over 55,000 passengers using their local airport to travel across the UK and Europe.
"The number one destination this year is the Scottish capital city, Edinburgh."
Along with Edinburgh, the top ten most popular destinations from Southampton Airport this Easter include Glasgow, Amsterdam, Paris and Newcastle.
According to the results of a recent Airports Council International survey of more than 200,000 travellers, Southampton Airport has the most courteous staff of any gateway in Europe.
