Canberra Airport development underway
The construction of a new multi-user terminal at Canberra Airport in Australia began this week.
A number of new passenger and airline facilities will be made available through the development, which will come at a cost of around $350 million (£169 million).
With 546 weekly flights, Qantas will be the biggest user of the new terminal, offering connections to Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and other destinations that could prove popular with people travelling in Australia.
Allan Williams, the airline's regional general manager, said: "The new multi-user terminal will give Qantas access to state-of-the-art facilities including additional check-in counters, aerobridges and gate lounges, improved baggage facilities and new and larger lounges.
"Canberra has experienced strong domestic passenger growth for a number of years, which has necessitated these improvements to the airport's infrastructure."
Qantas recently completed a development project at its existing domestic terminal in Canberra to provide new lounges, expanded check-in facilities, better security procedures and other improvements.
Flights to Canberra, which is located in south-east Australia, are also available with British Airways.
