SAS has announced that it is launching a trial of
mobile boarding at seven of its destinations across
Europe.
The airline said the trial, which will run from April 15th to July 1st, is in line with its focus to provide a "hassle-free" travel experience for passengers.
Users of the service will be able to check in via SMS or an online portal using internet-enabled phones and receive a mobile boarding pass with flight and departure details.
Heathrow Airport is one of the destinations taking part in the trial, along with
Copenhagen,
Gothenburg,
Helsinki,
Oslo,
Stavanger and
Stockholm.
Lars Sandahl Sorensen, senior vice-president of commercial operations for SAS, said: "Currently, approximately ten per cent of SAS passengers check in via SMS, but our goal for 2011 is that 80 per cent of our customers check in off-airport, which means online or via their mobile.
"It is very important for us that our customers have the smoothest and simplest travel experience possible with us. We are therefore looking forward to rolling out the service later this year, once we have evaluated the trial."
In addition to its European services, SAS provides flights to international destinations including
Tokyo,
Bangkok,
Washington and
Chicago.
