Brits 'still want to visit the USA'
The impact of the credit crunch and the recession has not stopped British people from wanting to visit America, according to the Visit USA Association.
Visit USA members have reported strong interest in travel to the country from the UK, as well as trends including more people enquiring much closer to their departure date than in the past.
The number of enquiries is currently high compared to bookings - suggesting that many people are shopping around to find the best value - and more consumers are biding their time before confirming their reservation.
A number of popular US destinations have launched promotions to attract more British travellers this year, including Florida, New York, Las Vegas and California.
Peter Moss, chairman of the Visit USA Association, said: "Clearly the USA continues to be high on the list of consumers' long-haul holiday options - despite the current economic backdrop.
"The USA has a holiday to suit every taste and budget - which is why UK travellers continue to return there in their millions every year - including 2009."
Visit USA recently promoted the eco-travel options available in California, with initiatives being launched at many of the state's airports, attractions and cities.
