Oman 'hoping to attract summer visitors'
The tourism sector of Oman is currently focusing on overcoming the challenge of attracting summer visitors, according to an industry spokeswoman.
Alison Cryer, UK and Ireland director of the country's tourism ministry, pointed out that Oman has the same climate as Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, its neighbour in the Middle East.
People willing to visit Dubai in the summer could also consider a trip to Oman, with the option to head to mountainous regions which enjoy a cooler climate in the hot season, Ms Cryer said.
The tourism ministry spokeswoman also commented on the general appeal of the country, saying: "Its 6000-year history and culture offers over 500 forts, castles and archaeological sites.
"With the tallest mountains in the region, Oman has world-renowned climbing, abseiling into caves and the second-largest underground cavern in the world."
Flights to Muscat, the capital city of Oman, are available with carriers including Oman Air, British Airways and Qatar Airways.
