Flybe to launch new domestic flights from Gatwick
Flybe has announced that it is coming "to the rescue" of Leeds-Bradford Airport with a new "lifeline" linking the Yorkshire hub to London Gatwick.
The regional airline will launch a new three-times daily service between the two airports on June 29th using a Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
Corporate travellers will benefit from a business-friendly schedule and the Yorkshire and Humber region is set to be boosted by the creation of up to 130 jobs as a result of the new flights.
Flybe announced the service after bmi's decision to cease flights to Leeds-Bradford from Heathrow Airport.
Tony Hallwood, commercial director at the Yorkshire airport, said: "We welcome the introduction of Flybe services to London Gatwick which will once again provide a valuable air link to the capital for business and leisure travellers.
"We also look forward to working with our regional tourism partners to encourage an increase in the number of visitors to the Yorkshire region from London and the south-east."
Flybe also operates a network of European services that includes flights to Amsterdam, Malaga, Paris and Milan.
