Austrian tourist attraction revamped by British artists
A group of British artists and architects have helped redevelop Swarovski Crystal World near Innsbruck, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Austria.
The interactive museum and gallery has welcomed more than eight million visitors since it opened in 1995, placing it behind only Vienna's Schoenbrunn palace on the list of the country's top tourist sites.
British 'action artist' Jim Whiting, musician Brian Eno and architecture firm Conran and Partners were among a team recently asked to help revamp the Crystal World gallery and exhibition area.
The architecture company remodelled the attraction's commercial centre and cafeteria, while Whiting created a new mechanical theatre display.
Eno has contributed a work of art entitled 55 Million Crystals to the gallery, which features a combination of ambient music, computer technology and hand-painted pictures.
Travellers can see the new elements of Swarovski Crystal World by catching flights to Innsbruck with carriers including Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa.
