Nearly half of holidaymakers 'looking for sun this spring'
A high chance of sunshine is the main priority motivating many British holidaymakers planning a spring getaway this year, according to research.
Holiday Extras conducted an online survey which found that 48 per cent of people planning a spring holiday want to visit a destination that boasts warm weather.
Almost a third (31 per cent) of the respondents to the travel add-ons company's poll said the weak value of the pound would not discourage them from travelling abroad over the coming months.
Some 18 per cent of people said they would be willing to visit mainland Europe despite the strong euro, while 13 per cent would reportedly consider visiting a long-haul destination.
While many Brits appear to want to escape to warmer climes this spring, a fifth (21 per cent) of the respondents to the survey said they would be happy to save money and travel in the UK.
Mike Whiting of Holiday Extras said: "I'm not surprised that so many people want guaranteed sunshine this spring and while some people will certainly be choosing to holiday closer to home, tourism abroad is still high on the agenda for most."
The company released another piece of research this month which suggested that 38 per cent of travellers would refuse to pay a charge to check in hold luggage.
