Abta stresses importance of financial protection
Holidaymakers need to make extra sure that their bookings are protected in view of the current economic climate, it has been claimed.
Following on from the recent collapse of Freedom Direct Holidays, Abta - The Travel Association has once again stressed the importance of financial protection, particularly among holidaymakers looking to arrange affordable holidays under their own initiative.
According to Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for the organisation, the current rules surrounding consumers' protection for holidays are "very complicated and not comprehensive".
"That's not a situation that we're pleased with, and we have been lobbying the government about this for many years," she stated.
"We do believe that a solution might be a step closer, but in the meantime, as a traveller, you do need to be aware of what you're booking and ask."
At the end of last year, XL Holidays announced that it was entering into administration, citing rising fuel prices and a lack of credit for its difficulties.
