Accolades for London in Enjoy England awards
A guided walk through historic London has been named England's top tourist attraction.
With the capital enjoying a successful night at this year's Enjoy England Awards for Excellence, London Walks scooped the coveted Gold Award for Best Tourism Experience, beating a number of popular attractions to the title.
According to the judging panel, the attraction, which offers 70 different themed walks by top-class guides, consistently provide "a fun, green, entertaining and value for money experience all year round".
Other big winners on the night were the Science Museum, also in London, which took the Silver Award for Best Large Visitor Attraction, as well as the capital's ExCel Centre, which recently hosted the G20 summit.
However, the north of England was also well represented at the Enjoy England Awards 2009, with Manchester Art Gallery and the Centre for Life in Newcastle being named as regional highlights.
This will come as welcome news to the north-east attraction, having just reopened to the public after a £4.5 million makeover.
