Great Singapore Sale to launch next month

Singapore will enjoy a boost in its popularity as a tourist destination from the end of May with the launch of the Great Singapore Sale.

Set to take place from May 29th to July 26th this year, the Great Singapore Sale is held in the city-state's Orchard Road area and features retail discounts, fashion shows, outdoor performances and more.

The 2009 sale will be preceded by the Longest Staged Catwalk Collection, an event being held along the Orchard Road pedestrian mall on May 1st that will see a 100-metre catwalk set up on the street.

Sixty models will parade up and down the catwalk during the three-hour evening event, showing off creations by the likes of DKNY, Jimmy Choo, Sonia Rykiel and Diesel Blackgold.

Orchard Road has recently been equipped with new street lighting and locations for outdoor events as part of a major upgrade.

Singapore, which can be reached by flying with carriers including Singapore Airlines and Qantas, boasts many other attractions such as Merlion Park and Bukit Timah nature reserve.
