Brits 'want more from their holidays'
British travellers are becoming increasingly interested in trying new things and engaging in unusual activities on holiday, according to research.
VisitScotland commissioned a YouGov survey of more than 2,200 people which found that 82 per cent would like to try one of the experiences being offered by the tourism agency as part of its Perfect Day campaign.
The activities listed on VisitScotland's website include a distillery tour and whisky tasting session, a guided visit to a wildlife reserve and a cooking masterclass with a Michelin-starred chef.
Three quarters (74 per cent) of UK travellers said they have a lifelong ambition they would like to achieve on holiday, while 73 per cent of respondents from London expressed an interest in learning a new skill during their travels.
VisitScotland product manager Noelle Campbell said: "The research backs up what we have known for some time - that people are looking for more from their holiday.
"Many people are choosing not to spend their money on overseas trips this year in favour of holidaying at home and the experiential packages available through our Perfect Day campaign showcase the many unique and diverse opportunities that will make a holiday at home a trip of a lifetime."
The VisitScotland Perfect Day campaign was launched this week and is designed to encourage British travellers to consider the UK as an affordable alternative to destinations in Europe and other regions.
