Tenerife to benefit from cinema exposure
The Tenerife tourism industry will enjoy a profile boost next year when a Hollywood remake of the classic 1981 movie Clash of the Titans is released.
A 350-strong production team will arrive on the island of Tenerife from May 15th to June 3rd to start work on the film, which is expected to generate revenue of around 2.5 million (£2.2 million) for the local economy.
Filming will take place in a set that is currently being built by the production company, as well as some of the island's mountainous areas and additional locations including Buenavista del Norte and Guia de Isora.
Due for release in March 2010, the new movie stars Sam Worthington in the lead role of Perseus, with Liam Neeson playing Zeus and Ralph Fiennes as Hades, god of the underworld.
Taking on directing duties is Louis Leterrier, who led the production of 2008's The Incredible Hulk.
Tenerife will not be the only Canary Island benefiting from movie exposure in the near future, with Lanzarote being used as the location for the new Pedro Almodovar film Broken Embraces, which is due for release this summer.
