US Airways set to launch new flights to Rio de Janeiro

Travellers will be able to catch connecting flights to Rio de Janeiro with US Airways later this year when the carrier launches a new service from its hub in Charlotte, North Carolina.

As long as approval is received from the government of Brazil, the airline will begin operations to the city on December 2nd.

People travelling from the UK will be able to catch flights from London to Charlotte to connect to the new route to Rio De Janeiro.

The service will represent US Airways' first connection to South America and its fifth new international route this year.

Suzanne Boda, the airline's vice-president of international operations, said: "This new flight offers business and leisure travellers throughout the United States [an] easy, one-stop connecting service to Brazil."

Earlier this month, US Airways expanded its range of services to the UK with new flights from Birmingham to Philadelphia.
