Qantas received an award at the recent Australian International Design Awards for its
Airbus A380 economy seat.
The award-winning seat was first designed by Marc Newsom, the airline's creative director.
Judges at the International Design Awards decided that the seat was a worthy winner on the strength of its "innovative, functional and intelligent design".
Lesley Grant, Qantas' executive marketing manager, said the accolade is "testament to the hard work invested in the design of the A380 over the past five years".
She added: "The design and manufacture of an all-new economy seat, offering passengers enhanced levels of comfort during long-haul travel, was a key focus of the Qantas A380 design project and we are honoured to be recognised for it with the Australian International Design Award of the Year."
Qantas has been progressively introducing the A380 on its international routes, including its
flights from London to Sydney and
Singapore.
The airline has also deployed the Airbus jet on its services from
Melbourne and
Sydney to
Los Angeles.
