Record opening for Venice Biennale art show
The 53rd International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale was officially opened in Italy yesterday (June 7th) to record visitor numbers.
Some 4,776 tickets were sold ahead of the launch of the Making Worlds show, with members of the public joining the 3,774 journalists who attended the exhibition during a three-day preview period.
Travellers planning a city break in Venice this summer will be able to see the exhibition at the Giardini and Arsenale exhibition venues until November 22nd.
Speaking earlier this year, show director Daniel Birnbaum said: "The title of the exhibition, Making Worlds, expresses my wish to emphasise the process of creation. A work of art represents a vision of the world and if taken seriously it can be seen as a way of making a world."
Around 90 artists from 77 different countries have provided work to appear in the display this year.
Flights to Venice are available with a number of airlines, including bmi, British Airways and easyJet.
