UK airports improve on-time performance
Ten of the biggest airports across the UK all managed to improve their punctuality ratings in the first quarter of the year, according to research by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The overall on-time performance of scheduled flights between January and March increased to 81 per cent this year, compared to 70 per cent in the same period in 2008.
Hubs in London achieved positive changes in their punctuality ratings, with Heathrow Airport improving its on-time performance by 20 per cent and London City Airport increasing its ratio of punctual flights by 18 per cent.
At regional airports, on-time performance increased by nine percentage points and the average delay fell by four minutes compared to the first quarter of 2008.
Edinburgh Airport was one of the best performers outside London, improving its punctuality by 12 percentage points and reducing average delays by six minutes.
The CAA also surveyed links to the 75 destinations with the most passengers from the UK, finding that flights to Rotterdam had the highest on-time performance of 91 per cent.
