British Airways sets punctuality record
British Airways has announced that it operated 87 per cent of its flights on time in May, setting a new punctuality record for the month.
The record marked the continuation of a good year so far for the airline, with 85 per cent of flights departing punctually in April and during the busy Easter period.
At Gatwick Airport, British Airways launched 92 per cent of its flights on time in April and achieved a 94 per cent on-time rate in May, marking the best month on record for any carrier at the hub.
The airline also said that its operations are improving at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5, which handled more than four million customers on around 30,000 flights in April and May.
Andy Lord, director of operations for British Airways, said: "We have never had such consistently high feedback scores from our customers and our operation continues to break records on an almost weekly basis.
"On many days we now have more than 90 per cent of our 720 daily flights around the world departing on time."
The Civil Aviation Authority recently released figures showing that punctuality improved at the UK's biggest airports in the first quarter of the year, with Edinburgh Airport improving its on-time performance by 12 percentage points.
